{View from Pinnacle Overlook} PPL Corporation to Transfer 3,500 Acres of Land Along Lower Susquehanna River as Part of Public-Private Partnership
PPL Corporation will transfer about 3,500 acres of its land along Pennsylvania's Susquehanna River as part of a broad public-private initiative that will preserve and protect this valuable land while enhancing its benefits to the public. The company will sell the land to the Lancaster County Conservancy for $5 million, then donate the $5 million tot he new owner as part of a sustainable endowment fund that will be used to maintain and enhance the land for public enjoyment. PPL will also provide addidtional ongoing suppport to the endowment fund. The majority of the money being paid to PPL for the land will come from the Community Conservation Partnerships grant program administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).
For the past five years, the planning team and founding board have worked to create a vision and a plan for the Susquehanna Greenway: The Susquehanna Greenway Strategic Action Plan. As one of the many initial tasks, the planning team and founding board has transitioned to an advisory role. A new Board of Directors has been recruited to run the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership. The Partnership is being established as an independent 501(c)(3) organization and professionals in the field of project development, education and outreach, and fundraising have been hired. Four regional lead organizations, comprised of state and local governments and private sector organizations, have begun education and outreach programs.
